For most of my life I have been blessed to have lived in San Diego, California.  I have sailed on the ocean, lived right next to it, played in its waves. My goal is simply to create visual recreations of the ocean’s beauty and in doing so, share the sense of peace that I find there.

Countless times, I have been drawn down to the water’s edge by a basic, almost primitive desire to be near it.  The ocean swells, then pours itself onto the shore.  My senses become filled with the hissing, roaring sound, the luminous color and salty smell, and the sheer power of the vast body of water before me.  This is what I want to capture in oil paint, on canvas.

Each painting presents an intimate view of a single wave, and usually the cliffs or rocks receiving the wave’s energy.  The works are medium in size, with the shape dependent on the composition.  My color palette is realistic, but not particularly limited, as the ocean is full of an endless variety of hues, based on season, time of day, weather, water temperature, and movement of the tide.
